Implementation Of The 5G In Latin America

TelecomWith a population over 600 million, Latin America is the world’s second growing mobile region after Sub-Saharan Africa. Growth opportunity in the region could provide the transformation needed to implement internet capabilities and 5G. With few players across the pan-region like Telefónica and América Móvil operates in many of those markets. Those companies are at the forefront of deploying new and emerging technology including the testing of the 5G.

The main operators could implement the 5G services in 2021 or 2022. The region has been a step behind the U.S. and European markets in adopting new telecommunication technologies.

The residential market in Latin America differs from the United states, the need to reach the rural and suburban areas could be challenging due to geographical and demographics. Launching a satellite could provide a solution, other initiative to reach customers have failed. Few countries outside of the United States have been successful to use satellites. It could be a solution, but the jury is still out to see if this is the best solution for this market.

Competitiveness amongst operators will continue to increase. Most of them are currently trying to improve their offers by differentiating their products and services.  In order to meet the consumer demands several operators have been building infrastructure to better managed their services.

We are expecting within the next three to five years the Latin America telecommunication landscape will not be the same. With these prospects operators are trying to find new role in a world where the sale and purchase of MHz will be less utilized.

Service providers are looking to expand their product portfolio that will also include mergers and alliances to strengthen their positions in the market. Keeping providing better services that not only served the market but also providing better connection beyond their borders.
